Or put it this way: If you have a year where you need to work with four paramedical specialists and max out your coverage, that’s $1600 each year you’re that you’re not paying out-of-pocket.

How often should you get an eye exam?

The Canadian Association of Optometrists recommends that adults get an eye exam every two years. If you wear glasses or contacts, it’s a good opportunity to check that your prescription is up-to-date. It’s also a chance to check on your overall eye health, ensuring that you’re able to catch any potential problems like glaucoma or cataracts as early as possible.

How much is an eye exam in Canada?

In Canada, the average eye exam costs around $190.

Does government health insurance cover eye exams and corrective lenses in Canada?

Government health insurance generally only provides limited coverage for eye exams to certain people, often seniors, children, and those on a lower income. It doesn’t usually provide coverage for prescription glasses or contacts. That’s why vision coverage is a popular part of workplace benefits plans or private coverage like Freedom to Choose health and dental insurance
