Ally and Todd are a young couple in their early 30s, living in a cozy suburban neighborhood in Ontario. They’ve been married for 4 years, and in that time, they've built a life full of love, laughter, and a growing family. Ally works as a graphic designer, while Todd is in construction. Together, they’ve worked hard to create a stable, comfortable life. But recently, things have started to feel a little more complicated, especially with the addition of their 2-year-old daughter, Lily.

The couple is excited about their future, but like many parents, they’re also feeling the weight of responsibility. They’ve realized that as their family grows, they need to be proactive in protecting their loved ones—not just emotionally, but financially, too.

With Lily in the picture, Ally and Todd’s priorities have shifted. They want to ensure that their little one has everything she needs, from a stable home environment to opportunities for a bright future. They’re also thinking about their own well-being and the importance of planning for the unexpected. As Ally and Todd talk about their future, the same question keeps coming up: What if something happens to one of us?

One night, after putting Lily to bed, Ally and Todd sit down for a serious conversation.

Ally says,

"I mean, I can’t imagine life without you, but what would we do financially? How would we take care of Lily?"

Todd responds, "I know, Ally. I’ve been thinking about that too. I’ve been feeling a little more anxious about it ever since Lily was born. We’ve talked about how important it is to make sure she’s set up for a good future, but what about if something happens to me? I don’t want you to have to struggle or worry about money while you’re grieving."

"Exactly.” Ally says. “And what if I’m not around? I want to make sure Lily is okay—whether it’s for college or even just everyday things like groceries and rent. We need something in place, just in case."

Todd replies, "I totally agree. We’ve worked so hard to get here, and I don’t want to leave you both in a tough spot. Maybe it’s time we investigate some insurance options? I’ve heard that term life insurance could be affordable and could really help if one of us isn’t here to take care of things. I think we should get in touch with an advisor to check it out."

Ally says, "That sounds like a good place to start. And I’ve been thinking about our healthcare coverage too. Lily’s getting older, and what if we deal with unexpected expenses as she grows? What if something serious happens to any of us?  Let’s have the advisor show us some health benefit options as well."

Ally and Todd begin to research insurance options and set up a meeting with an advisor at Canada Life.

Ally and Todd schedule a virtual meeting with an advisor at Canada Life to go through some insurance options that could work for their budget and long-term goals.

The advisor suggests term life insurance and Freedom to ChooseTM health and dental insurance.

Ally, Todd, and their advisor dig into the details of term life insurance. Todd explains it to Ally:

"So, term life insurance would give us affordable coverage for a certain period—let’s say 20 or 30 years. If we go for coverage of let's say $500,000, we can get a My Term 30-year plan for affordable monthly payments, which fits our budget. It’s not a forever thing, but it’s enough to help cover things like our mortgage, childcare, and other expenses if something happens to one of us. For example, if I were to pass away unexpectedly, this policy could help make sure you don’t have to worry about keeping the house or paying the bills while you’re grieving."

"I like that.” Ally says.

Their advisor also walks them through health insurance options. They realize that with a growing family, it’s important to make sure they have adequate coverage for  medications, and any unexpected health issues. They discuss Freedom to ChooseTM health and dental insurance and its viability for their family protection needs:

Ally says, "I’ve been looking at Freedom to Choose health and dental insurance with Canada Life, and I think we need to make sure we have more coverage since I don’t have benefits and yours may not be enough for our needs. I did a quote for coverage on their website, and it looks like their popular Select Plus plan would be within our budget as well. It'll cost us around $350 per month and provide us with 80% coverage for things like prescription drugs and routine dental services, which can add up quick, and could surpass your benefits through work. This could help us, especially for Lily when she starts getting more checkups as she gets older or if we have another child in the future."

Todd replies, "That sounds pretty good. "

“...especially for the costs that my benefits don’t cover. It’s expensive, and if we didn’t have insurance, we’d be stuck paying full price, or large out of pocket costs.”

Ally replies to Todd saying, "Good point. Dental work can add up fast. If we have insurance that covers preventative care, which this insurance product does offer, that would be a huge relief. Plus, with all the things we need to budget for, it’s good to know that health and dental insurance can help us avoid some of those unexpected costs."

After spending time researching their options with Canada Life and talking to an advisor, Ally and Todd are relieved to realize that there are solutions out there to help protect their family. Term life insurance could help their family for years to come if one of them were to unexpectedly pass away, ., Also, with Freedom to Choose health and dental insurance, they can keep their family in good health without worrying about massive out-of-pocket expenses.

Todd says, "I feel so much better now that we’re taking action. It’s like we’re doing our part to make sure that no matter what life throws at us, we can handle it—and that Lily will be taken care of."

Ally replies, "Exactly. It’s a relief knowing that we’ve set something up in case the worst happens."

As they look ahead to the future, Ally and Todd know that they’ve taken the right steps to protect their growing family. By securing term life insurance and comprehensive health and dental coverage by Canada Life, they’ve helped create a safety net that lets them focus on what matters most—raising Lily, growing their careers, and enjoying life together.
