Canada Life is warning of possible phishing attempts or other malicious messages targeting individuals with connections to the company, including employees, customers, plan sponsors, and advisors.
As you may know, Canada Life recently experienced a cyber incident which has been contained. However, an increasingly common occurrence following a cyber incident is an increased volume of phishing and other malicious activity targeting individuals connected to the organization that experienced the original attack. We are aware of a similar pattern potentially developing targeting Canada Life’s stakeholders.
It’s common for threat actors to conduct phishing to attempt to create panic or urgency to encourage quick responses – such as clicking links, opening attachments or sharing information.
What to remember
- Canada Life will never ask anyone to provide passwords, one‑time codes or sensitive personal information by email or text message.
- If a communication doesn’t feel right, it’s appropriate to pause and verify it before taking any action.
- If you receive a malicious email or text message, do not respond or interact with the sender.
- If Canada Life determines that an individual needs to take action, we will contact them directly and provide guidance and support.
