Donation to be made in Félix Bélanger’s name

Montreal, QC, March 19, 2020. . . With the Sherbrooke Phoenix season currently on pause, in lieu of the game on March 21, Canada Life will donate $1,000 to Leucan Estrie in honour of Félix Bélanger, a cancer survivor who benefited from Leucan’s services.

As the game’s presenting sponsor, Canada Life was to invite 11-year-old Félix Bélanger to shoot for the chance to have a $1,000 donation made to Leucan Estrie in his name.

In October 2015, Félix Bélanger was diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma. Félix underwent all his treatments, which ended in early 2016, with courage and determination. He has since been doing well. He participates in the socio-recreational activities offered by Leucan and gives back to the cause, notably as a spokesperson for the Sherbrooke Leucan Shaved Head Challenge in 2017. Not only was Félix affected by pediatric cancer, but his whole family was as well. His mother refers to Anne-Marie, their dedicated family services agent, and to Leucan as “the foundation that kept everything from falling apart.”

“Canada Life is proud to support Leucan Estrie. Although the Canadian Hockey League season is paused until further notice, we wanted to make a meaningful contribution to the cause,” said Vickie Lamontagne, General Manager, Business Development, Freedom 55 Financial, a division of Canada Life. “We invest in the communities where our clients, our employees and our advisors live and work and, at the same time, support causes that have the potential to improve the lives of all Quebecers.”

“We are honoured that Canada Life has chosen Leucan Estrie as a partner for this Phoenix game,” said Karine Fontaine, Regional Director of Leucan Estrie. “We are always looking for ways to create memorable experiences for our youth and our Leucan families, during and after treatment. I am convinced that Félix will remember this moment for a long time and will be able to give other children undergoing treatment hope for better days ahead.”
