An RESP you can open in your pajamas (because it’s all online)

Many Canadians think a registered education savings plan (RESP) is more complicated than co-ordinating after-school activities. But with Canada Life, you can start a plan online between periods of a hockey game. Score!

Unlike other RESPs out there, this one is through your plan 2 which means fees are generally lower 3 so you can save more.

How can it help?
With an RESP you can:

  • Access federal government grants that kick in $1 for every $5 put in (contributing up to $500 a year and $7,200 total), with some provinces offering more incentives.
  • Begin saving in the individual or family RESP that meets your specific needs.
  • Contribute through online banking or pre-authorized deposits to your plan.

When the time comes, it’s easy to withdraw the money for students to pay for tuition, books and whatever else they need for school.

While the RESP from Canada Life is for members of a group plan, it’s not to be confused with a group RESP, which is sold by a scholarship dealer and usually comes with a list of rules and restrictions for contributions and withdrawals.
