Your large-case resources
Dr. Bruce Empringham is a family doctor with 30 years of experience on the medical underwriting team at Canada Life. In that time, he’s seen many things and is always available to help you and your large-case practice.
What do you do at Canada Life?
I get involved in life cases with premiums exceeding $100,000 and on large disability and critical illness insurance cases. I work exclusively with Canada Life because I love working with our underwriting and medical teams.
Over the years, I’ve helped many advisors with difficult cases. In my current role I use that experience to help your business in a variety of ways:
- You may be working with a prospect or existing client or taking an application for a large-case and find out there’s a medical issue that you think might be a concern. I can consult with you before starting the process to help you and your client navigate potential concerns to reduce any surprises.
- Partway through underwriting, you may discover your client has medical issues you want to get in front of. Again, in partnership with your underwriter I can help you find the best solution.
- In some circumstances, the decision isn’t what you or your clients hoped for. We know health issues can turn up and sometimes clients, and even their doctors, don’t understand the long-term impact of these conditions. I can help explain this decision to you and your clients, so you fully understand the situation.
I work on large-cases with Brigitte Loos, Vice-President and Chief Underwriting, and Sylvie Schmaus, Assistant Vice-President, Advanced Underwriting, and her large-case team. I believe in our team and want to help you and your practice succeed. I’ve underwritten hundreds of thousands of cases and I’m able to lend my experience to your team and help support you and your clients. I encourage you to reach out through your Canada Life wholesaler or underwriter. Don’t worry there’s no extra paperwork or process involved. Reach out and we’ll be there to help.
Thanks for your ongoing support.
