Winnipeg, MB, October 28, 2022 – Canada Life, along affiliated companies, today announced a $60,000 contribution to the Ukrainian Canadian Congress (UCC) Manitoba Chapter. This donation will support the immediate resettlement efforts of Ukrainian refugees in Winnipeg and surrounding communities.
“Millions of Ukrainians have been forced to leave their home country, and thousands have sought safety in Canada. Like so many others, we’re continuing to do our part to help those seeking refuge in our communities,” said Paul Mahon, President and Chief Executive Officer of Great-West Lifeco and Canada Life. “With this additional donation, we’re able to help support the brave and resilient people affected by this war – both here in Canada and in Ukraine.”
Additionally, Canada Life employees teamed up with the UCC to sponsor a hygiene supply drive - collecting and distributing personal health essentials including toothpaste, deodorant, and soap to Ukrainian refugees. The company is also supporting the UCC’s upcoming triennial policy congress taking place in Winnipeg on October 28-30.
“Canada Life’s generosity will help lift fundraising efforts to fill gaps in services, provide essential goods, and supports for many seeking a new home in Canada and making their transition to life here,” said Joan Lewandosky, President of the Manitoba Provincial Council of the Ukrainian Canadian Congress. “This act of compassion is genuinely appreciated and most welcome.”
This contribution is in addition to an earlier donation of $200,000 made to the Canadian Red Cross Ukraine Humanitarian Crisis Appeal supporting needs related to the situation in Ukraine and the surrounding region.
